Dino-Rift
Review of Dino-Rift by Derek Borne
About the Book
Description
The Rift.
A gateway to a prehistoric world.
For years, SauraCorps has kept its existence confidential while touting themselves as a run-of-the-mill dinosaur museum.
For two Utah teens, Kamren and Vivienne, a care-free night to themselves quickly turns into a daunting trek through an exotic, unfamiliar time.
Not only do they stumble upon SauraCorps’ nefarious agenda, they also encounter major discrepancies concerning the past that would rewrite history books as we know them.
Kam and Viv’s reliance on each other through the primeval environment also tests their friendship in unexpected ways.
Will they survive and make it home…together?
Note: Dino-Rift is set in the same universe as Derek Borne's "The Ultimate Agent" series.
My Review
My Ranking: ★★★★ (4 stars)
I have been following this Author for a few years now, but this was the first book of his I’ve read. I enjoyed it! The main characters are a couple of teenage best friends. They get up to regular teenage mischief which leads them to meet another major character, E-A. What starts as a fun adventure for the kids turns into a blast from the past and has them fighting for their lives. The nostalgia of dinosaurs and time travel just added to the allure of it. I liked the spin the Author made with the dinosaurs by making them different than what we were taught. I liked that most of the characters bonded with a Dino. Mo was my favorite out of all the Dino friends. Having a corrupt organization being the villain of the story was PERFECT. Some scenes with the SauraCorp workers abusing the dinosaurs were pretty sad. My husband is a major dinosaur fan, so it was fun to talk to him about them as I was reading. He enjoyed making fun of me because I did not know there were other types of raptors apart from velociraptors. So not only was this book entertaining it was also a learning experience. I also enjoyed the illustrations of the dinosaurs. I found it very helpful since my knowledge of dinosaurs I found out was very limited.
One quote that I highlighted from the book was,
“A Fire doesn’t know it’s a fire until the spark has been lit.”- E-A
I saw where this is in the same universe as the Authors other books. I am excited to check those out as I continue to follow and support Derek Borne.
